Dangerously Good Blueberry Bread
Just sayin', if you haven't had lunch and you make this extraordinary blueberry bread that's chock full of walnuts and has hints of lemon running throughout, you may be at risk of gobbling down half the loaf before you know what's happened. Not that I speak from personal experience of course--I'm just here with a hypothetical cautionary tale. Ha! But seriously, I've made a lot of quick breads in my day, and none have ever called out to me the way this one does. And maybe that's because it's more of a cake than a bread, but no matter--go get yourself some fresh berries and get started, 'cause this one's a keeper and the blueberry season is all too short.
Strawberry Crumble Bars
Sorry to be MIA this week--and I can't even take credit for these strawberry crumble bars which come to you courtesy of my 14 year old daughter who baked them while I was busy at rehearsal. They are amazing, she is amazing and I am amazed that I have raised a child who can not only search the internet for a recipe, bake it up perfectly but also take terrific pictures of it! My work is done!
Strawberry Blueberry Turnovers
More on the berry hit parade--we're still swimming in them around here! And berries, especially red and blue ones, make me think of July 4th which is a convenient little excuse for me to segue into these delightful breakfast treats. If you're looking for a fun way to liven up a relaxed July 4th weekend breakfast or brunch, these berry filled turnovers will definitely fit the patriotic bill!
Strawberry April Fools
On this fateful Friday, the first day of April, I have an important announcement to make. Famous Fridays is done! Over! Finished! Kaput!!! Aw...I'm just kidding! Would I do that to you?!! There are so many great chefs out there to still explore! It's just a little bit of April foolery fun!! And while we're on the subject, and yes, I'm probably setting myself up here, what makes a fool? Now if you're 8 and 10 year old brothers, you'd probably be pointing your fingers at each other which would ultimately result in some sort of tackling and tears, but if we're talking fools in the kitchen (other than myself) then we're talking about an easy fruit and whipped cream pudding-like dessert. So today for this very un-famous Famous Fridays, we'll be talking fools, Strawberry Fools, to be specific and you'd be a fool not to make this scrumptious and classic dessert! Happy Strawberry April Fool's Day!
Apple Brown Betty
The English language is a funny thing, especially when it comes to fruit desserts. There are crumbles, crisps, cobblers, grunts, slumps, buckles and brown bettys and chances are you could maybe get the definitions of the first three pretty close, but you'd start to get lost somewhere around the grunts and slumps and fail this Food SAT miserably!! No worries--I'm here for a quick tutorial (if you care and I don't blame you a bit if you don't!!--just skip to the recipe, no feelings hurt!).
One Bowl Baking's Apple Crisp Bars-Famous Fridays
Ok, and on to one of the things that makes life so worth living: dessert!! And I have got a winner for you today. Easy-to-make, moist, apple-y bars with a crisp cinnamon-y oat topping that are just perfect for this time of year, courtesy of One Bowl Baking, by Yvonne Ruperti, our Famous Fridays honoree this week. In addition to writing about food and and developing new recipes, Yvonne is also a former bakery owner, who developed the one-bowl method for her own tiny-home-kitchen-apartment baking so that she didn't have to lug her heavy mixer out of the closet! LOVE IT!!
